The glitch genre emerged in the mid-1990s in Germany and grew from the idea of using errors and digital failures as musical material. Its aesthetic traces back to Luigi Russolo’s manifesto "The Art of Noises". Later the style developed through releases on the Mille Plateaux label and projects like Oval. Glitch music often uses software-based editing where short samples, skips, system noise and digital distortions become the main rhythmic and sonic elements.
